Air quality sensors with hourly readings over weeks

Krakow, Lesser Poland, Polandsynthetic data, real placeMaps, charts and report
The question

When and where does air quality get worst over time, which districts have the most complaints, and how near are sensors to busy roads?

A city uploads its air quality sensors with three weeks of hourly readings, districts, major roads, heating complaints, traffic counters, schools, green areas, daily traffic counts and a bulletin. It wants to know when and where air quality gets worst and how close sensors are to busy roads.

What the map shows. The map displays the analysis of "Heating and smoke complaints" across a grid of cells, according to the provided legend. The overwhelming majority of the mapped area is coloured grey, indicating that "No pattern detected" was found in most locations. There is a small cluster of adjacent hexagonal cells near the center of the map that are coloured orange, signifying a "Sporadic hot spot." These few sporadic hot spots are tightly grouped together in a specific area, standing out against the wide expanse of areas showing no discernible pattern. 52

What the data was built to show

  • PM2.5 peaks on cold still evenings (smog episodes 16 to 17 and 23 to 25 January), worst in the older districts.
  • Heating complaints cluster in the older districts around 50.07528, 19.92240 in winter evenings.
  • Sensors near the busiest traffic counters read more NO2.

Expected analysis families: space_time, hot_spots, aggregation, density, map.
